We will start our CARavan on Friday September 18, 2009 and end the following week on Saturday in Memphis,
Tennessee September 26, 2009.
While in Memphis we will visit Beale Street, Graceland, Sun Studios, Gibson Guitar Factory, Memphis
Rock and Soul Museum. We will of course enjoy the famous Memphis Bar B Que.
Leaving Memphis on Monday we will travel to the Casey Jones Village in Jackson, Tennessee for Lunch
and a Tour of the Museum and shops. After Lunch we will travel the back roads to Fort Donelson in Dover, Tennessee (National
Battlefield from the Civil War era and the Cumberland River). We will travel up the "Trace" (located in the Land between the
Lakes) to the Lake Barkley State Resort Park in Cadiz Kentucky for our two-night stay. We plan to visit the six Antique Shops
in Cadiz and a Boat Ride on Lake Barkley.
On Wednesday we will travel up the "Trace" to a Car Museum for a brief stop and then on to Patties
1880’s Settlement at Grand Rivers, Kentucky for Lunch then on to Paducah, Kentucky.
In Paducah we will visit (as people wish) the local attractions on the Ohio River Front including the
Railroad, River Heritage and William Clark’s Market House Museum’s, Yeiser Art Center and the Museum of the American
Quilter’s Society. We will stay overnight in Paducah.
On Thursday we will travel the back roads again to Cape Girardeau, Missouri. On the way we plan to
stop in Cairo, Illinois to see the Magnolia Manor and Custom House, then crossover the Mississippi River for our Lunch stop
at Lambert’s in Sikeston, Missouri (Home of the Throwed Rolls). Dinner on Thursday will be at Bella Italia in Cape.
Friday we will travel to the Bollinger Mill (Corn Milling) for a Tour and Lunch. We will have a photo
op at the Burfordville Covered Bridge, circa 1851 (the oldest covered bridge in Missouri). In the afternoon we will have an
Ice Cream Social and Tour at one of our members business in Jackson, Missouri.
Saturday will be our longest driving day back to Memphis for our closing Banquet. We will again cross
over the mighty Mississippi River.
